ABOUT AIDA

To The Editor, Today's FDA
(Journal of the Florida Dental Association)
July 1, 1997

I would like to clear up a misunderstanding regarding the American Independent Dentist's Association (AIDA), a membership organization which has formed as a result of interest expressed at the Florida Academy of Dental Practice Administration luncheon at the 1997 Miami Midwinter Meeting.

Many members of the Florida Dental Association are under the misconception that this organization intends to be independent of the American Dental Association. This is certainly not the case, as one of our requirements is membership to the ADA. We look to augment organizational effectiveness; we feel that dentistry's strength must come from unity. Division is unacceptable.

The following are some of the goals of AIDA:

Sponsorship into dental societies
Sponsorship into study clubs
Assistance with placement
Coaching for practice management
Invitations to societies of excellence, such as the Florida Academy of Dental Practice Administration

If there are any other questions concerning our organization please call upon me. I must again strongly state that we support Organized Dentistry, but strive to further our fee-for-service viewpoint to assure representation at all levels. The Directorship of the American Independent Dentist's Association stands united in its support and respect for the tenets of Organized Dentistry, and hope to inject much energy and enthusiasm into it at every level. I personally look forward to adding to the process.

Sincerely,

Allan Berry, DDS
