Our Greatest Power
Let's examine some facts:
You have a license that grants you permission to diagnose, touch, and perform invasive procedures upon the bodies of willing patients. This has been a sacred covenant throughout written history.
No other cogs in the health care system have such permission from society.
You have the ability to recommend treatment, and thus spending, to patients.
You have the ability to influence patients' use of related resources, such as specialists, hospitals, outpatient services, pharmacies, consumables, and others. Your professional recommendations set the standards for these goods and services.
As you have traditionally assumed high liability in exchange for this permission, you have been traditionally well reimbursed.
As you have traditionally incurred great financial and time debt to achieve your ability to carry a license, you have been traditionally well reimbursed.
You contribute to the definition of the standard of care by whatever standards of practice you follow.
The health care wheel stands still without you, under current law and societal standards.
OTHERS COULD AND WILL PROFIT FROM WHAT YOU HAVE. |
YOUR PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS ARE THE LAST LINE OF DEFENSE IN THE PROTECTION OF THAT POWER. DO THEY REPRESENT YOU WELL? |
