A TEMPLATE FOR THE CREATION OF AN AIDA-MODEL DENTAL SOCIETY
Dental organizations are intended to facilitate the spread of knowledge and services throughout the dental and patient communities. Knowledge must be shared because of the original definition of the word "Doctor", meaning teacher. Healing services must be offered to patients because that is the essence of the profession. Services of other sorts must be offered to dentists because of the obvious advantages of sharing information and experience. This concept has been understood for millenia prior to the establishment of the first "guilds" in the Medievil period.
The fundamental basis of knowledge, service, information, and experience is learning. AIDA proposes that dentistry become a learning organization, which is a hands-on, participation sensitive organizational culture. Learning people populate and drive learning organizations. The local dental society is the most accessible and facile arena to promote the values of choice in dentistry, and through which to inject energy to affect positive change into the profession.
AIDA provides the backbones of a model dental society for your inspection, editorialization, and hopefully for your use. The specifics can and should be adapted to the personality and culture of your locale. The "platform", level of proactivity, level of commitment, and vision must be assumed by the leadership upon commencement.
